Data Recovery user guide

Approving Data Recovery

If Data Recovery has been requested by your IT Network Provider, then it will be in the pending approval section of the portal, alternatively, you can approve the request via the promotional banner. If there are other banners displaying, try refreshing the page.

Once you’ve selected the Data Recovery tile you will see all the requested permissions listed. Choose exactly which datasets you would like to share. Please note that the data availability will vary depending on which MIS your school uses, for more information, please contact

datarecovery@wonde.com

To decline a permission, toggle the permission off.

Once you are happy with the permissions, select the ‘Approve access’ button.

You will then see a confirmation modal confirming your approval. If you are happy to progress select ‘Approve application’.

What happens next?

The approval process is now complete. You and any other admins associated with your school will receive an approval receipt confirming the permissions have been approved. The approval receipt is time and date-stamped and is useful for your records.

If your school isn’t installed with Wonde you will be prompted to complete the integration.

If your school is installed then a member of Wonde’s support team will check reports and audit your data to ensure your data is appearing correctly in our API.

Please note that access control cannot be applied to Data Recovery due to the nature of the service.

Requesting data

To request the data, select the ‘Launch’ icon.

Data Recovery will open in a new tab and you can select the report you want.

Parent contact details and Fire register reports can be downloaded immediately. You will see a confirmation message which includes a password. Once this has been noted select the ‘Download ’option.

The file will be sent to your email and will require the password to access the CSV file(s).

If you wish to request the ‘All your data’ report we will contact the headteacher at the school to verify the request is genuine. To do this select the ‘Submit request’ button, making sure you have noted the password.  Once we have verified the requestfiles will be sent email which will require the password displayed to you within the portal.

Further information

How long is the ‘All data’ link active?

The link expires after 7 days and can be downloaded a maximum of 5 times. The user will need to enter the password displayed in the Data Recovery platform when they request the download.

Can we use the data to rebuild our MIS (easily/how?) if other methods of backups aren’t available?

You can certainly use data from Data Recovery to assist in rebuilding your MIS data, however, you would need to manipulate what we provide to fit the needs of MIS. In this event, your MIS should be able to assist you in what structure and format would work best.

I’m downloading the data and I’m seeing ‘error 0x80004005’

It’s likely your school is using Windows 10 which doesn’t support the stronger encryption method we use (supported by Windows 11). If you are unable to update to Windows 11 (recommended) then you can use a program such as 7-Zip can be used to extract the files.
